I was always the family’s tech guy.
Behind SCF Nexus is a path made of two halves that never let go of each other: law and technology.
Technology came first
It started early. My first computer was a 386 DX2. I learned the DOS and Windows 3.1 command line on it at ten, twelve years old. By thirteen I was taking the whole machine apart and putting it back together. By fifteen I was teaching myself HTML and dialling into BBS, the internet before the internet. Technology was, from the start, my native language.
Then came law, and technology stayed
In 2002 the road forked. I was admitted to Computer Science at PUC-Rio, but ended up enrolling in Law. In a family where law was almost the natural path, with one brother already a public prosecutor and another on his way, law won the decision. Technology, though, went nowhere. Around that time I co-founded an IT company with a colleague, where we sold hardware and software, provided support and set up small networks. I graduated in law and passed the Bar, but at home I stayed the family’s tech guy throughout all those years devoted to law.
And they were serious years
I built my career in strategic work. First in real estate, contracts and succession law, then in tax as well. Complex, high-value cases, where I learned to take hard problems apart with the same method I once used to take computers apart as a kid.
The two halves met again
On purpose. From 2018 I returned to formal study of technology. In 2021, moving to Portugal, I earned Google’s professional certification in systems support and then began the Master’s in Law & Informatics at the University of Minho, right on the border where my two worlds cross. SCF Nexus is that border, finally with a name: the point where the lawyer and the technician, who were always the same person, work together.
How I work
Preventively and consultatively. I would rather problems never happen than spend my life putting out fires. I prefer clarity to jargon. And because I live between Brazil and Portugal, I understand first-hand the companies operating on both sides, and the two laws, GDPR and LGPD, they must comply with at once.
